CCSD 89 Teaching and Learning Department

  • The role of the Community Consolidated School District 89 Teaching and Learning Department is to work with all CCSD 89 staff to provide a supportive, engaging, and rigorous academic environment for all students.

The CCSD 89 Teaching and Learning Department is grounded in the principle mission that CCSD 89 will empower all learners to recognize and optimize their full potential. In order to achieve this goal, the CCSD 89 Teaching and Learning Department focuses on several critical strategies for action supporting the CCSD 89 Strategic Plan:

    1. We will implement shared units of instruction that are aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards and promote critical thinking skills, including collaboration, communication, and creativity that will lead to analytical thinking and problem-solving.
    2. We will establish a learning environment that encourages curiosity and fosters a growth mindset, integrating social-emotional learning standards to promote social and cultural awareness, responsible decision making, relationship skills, self-awareness, and self-management.
    3. We will differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every student and work to close achievement gaps by increasing rigor and challenge for all through universally designed instruction.
    4. We will set goals using clear measures with targets and use data to monitor and communicate progress in a timely way to allow for actionable feedback: student, classroom, team/department, school, and district.
    5. We will continuously evaluate and seek to implement leading technology to support engaged learning and teaching.

The Teaching and Learning Department is led by Dr. Jill Kingsfield

Dr. Jill Kingsfield is an experienced administrator with a background in raising achievement levels for all students.

Kingsfield began her education career teaching Spanish at Lake Park High School. She then worked as dean of students at the high school from 1999 to 2004. For the next 13 years, she served as assistant principal, then Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Fenton High School.

As Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Fenton, Kingsfield worked to identify underrepresented students who were qualified for Advanced Placement courses. After facilitating a series of challenging, data-driven conversations about equity, Kingsfield helped increase the number of students enrolling in AP classes by 48 percent and the number of students from underrepresented groups by 58 percent. Because of this work, Fenton was named the nation’s Advanced Placement District of the Year in 2018.

In 2017, Kingsfield was named superintendent at Argo School District 217. As superintendent, she helped increase social-emotional supports for students by adding social workers and school psychologists, and bringing in professional development regarding adverse childhood experiences and trauma-informed practices.

“My true passion is doing all I can to make sure every student has what they need to be successful every single day, because that is what every student deserves,” Kingsfield said. “I love working with teachers to help them improve their craft, which, in turn, helps students be the best they can be.”

Kingsfield has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish education from the University of Kansas. She earned master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction as well as administration from National Louis University. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from National Louis University.

Kingsfield lives in Brookfield with her family, including one daughter.
