Briar Glen teacher Chris Gillis selected as Golden Apple finalist
Briar Glen preschool teacher Chris Gillis is one of just 32 finalists for the Golden Apple Award, which honors the best educators in Illinois. There were 708 preschool-through-third-grade teachers nominated and less than 5 percent were selected to be finalists.

Save a life and get some lucky socks by donating blood on March 17 at Glen Crest
Get a free COVID-19 antibody test and St. Patrick's socks by donating blood between 2 and 6:30 p.m. on March 17, at Glen Crest Middle School.

CCSD 89 will expand in-person learning hours for elementary, middle school students
Starting March 22, CCSD 89 will increase the number of hours elementary and middle school students can be in the buildings. Students can also continue to learn remotely with the same teachers they have been working with.

Preschool teacher Chris Gillis named CCSD 89 Educator of the Year
Briar Glen preschool teacher Chris Gillis was selected as CCSD 89 Educator of the Year for her commitment to making the community a better place to live, learn, and work.

Pre-registration for 2021-22 kindergartners and new students is now open
Families with students who will be starting kindergarten or new to Community Consolidated School District 89 in the 2021-22 school year can begin the pre-registration process on Wednesday, February 10. Registration for returning students will open April 7.

Free meals available 3:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays
All CCSD 89 families can pick up a week’s worth of free breakfasts and lunches at all five schools. Meals will now be available from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, or 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

Students can report bullying, threats, crises through “SpeakUp for Safety” tip line
Students in CCSD 89 have a new tool for reporting bullying, threats, or classmates in crisis. Students can confidentially call, email, or text the “SpeakUp for Safety” tipline at any time if they have information an adult needs to know.

District will begin saliva surveillance screening one elementary classroom per week
Each week, all of the in-person students from one randomly selected class in the district will participate in SafeGuard saliva screening.

Free meals available on 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Friday, February 19
Because Monday's meal pickup was postponed by inclement weather, free meals will be available from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 19, at all five CCSD 89 schools.

The CCSD 89 Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, February 22, at Glen Crest Middle School.

Tuesday, February 16, will be all remote learning for CCSD 89 students
Due to severe winter weather, all Community Consolidated School District 89 students will learn remotely on Tuesday, February 16. Students should log on to their typical Tuesday hybrid schedule.

No meals available on Monday, February 15
Due to the severe weather expected this afternoon, there will be no lunches available at Glen Crest Middle School or the elementary schools from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today, Monday, February 15.

Families can now submit 2021-22 preschool pre-registration
Families interested in having their child attend Community Consolidated School District 89 preschool in the 2021-22 school year can now fill out a pre-registration information form.

CCSD 89 schools will be OPEN for in-person hybrid learning on January 26
All CCSD 89 schools will be open for in-person learning on Tuesday, January 26. Students should follow their regular schedule for hybrid learning on a Tuesday.

District monitoring severe weather expected to arrive Monday evening
CCSD 89 is monitoring the reports for severe weather that is forecast for Monday night into Tuesday morning. If school buildings would need to be closed for a “snow day”, all students would participate in remote learning on Tuesday.

Get tips for helping your child thrive in hybrid learning at CCSD 89 Parent University on January 21
Families are invited to learn more strategies for helping their students succeed in hybrid and remote learning during the first CCSD 89 Parent University meeting. The webinar will be held via Zoom at 6:30 p.m. on January 21.

Donors can get free COVID-19 antibody testing at January 13 blood drive
There is a critical need for blood donations at this time. The community can donate between 2 and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, at Glen Crest Middle School, 725 Sheehan Avenue.

CCSD 89 band, orchestra students earn honors at state competition
Twenty seven CCSD 89 musicians earned honors at the recent Illinois Grade School Music Association solo and ensemble contest. Four students earned perfect scores.
