2024 - 2025 Fifth Grade Beginning Band recruitment schedule

Dear parents,

The CCSD 89 Band Department would like to extend an invitation to your child to become a part of our school band program. The rewards include the development of skills in music, self-discipline, and goal orientation. Many students find that taking an active part in the school band is a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

Group instruction is given during a weekly lesson. The lessons will be taught at your child’s school during the school day. To begin band instruction, your child will need an instrument, cleaning and maintenance accessories, a book (Essential Elements Book 1), and a music stand.

In order to provide a successful musical experience for your child, we would like him or her to try the instruments before deciding which one to play. This helps us to check interest and physical characteristics, and aids in deciding which instrument best suits your child. If you already own an instrument, bring it to the try-out so that the director can check it over. Immediately following the try-out, we will inform parents of instrument recommendations via a letter sent to your home.

If you are interested in having your child become a part of the District 89 Band program, please plan on attending the 5th Grade Beginning Band registration on September 3, 2024, at Spartan Hall in Glen Crest Middle School. You may stop by at any time between 4 and 7 p.m. Quinlan & Fabish Music Company will be on hand to provide you with information about their instrument rental program.

About recruitment 2024-25

In order to promote student interest and provide information about the District 89 band program, band recruitment will take place in the fall with the incoming fifth graders. As in the past, this recruitment will include classroom demonstrations, instrument try-outs, and a meeting with the parents about instrument selection. Please mark these dates on your calendar.

Aug. 22-23 - Band demonstrations at elementary schools

Aug. 27 - Instrument try-outs at Westfield

Aug. 28 - Instrument try-outs at Park View

Aug. 29 - Instrument try-outs at Arbor View

Aug. 30 - Instrument try-outs at Briar Glen

Sep. 3 - Fifth Grade Beginning Band registration at Glen Crest (4-7 p.m.)

Important dates 2024-25

Sep. 3, 2024 - Band sign-up night 4-7 p.m. (Glen Crest Middle School)

Oct. 24, 2024 - First fifth grade band rehearsal 4-4:45pm (Glen Crest)

Rehearsals take place on the following Thursdays: 10/24, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/05, 12/12

Dec. 19, 2024 - Winter Band Concert 6 p.m. (Glenbard South High School)

Mar. 14, 2025 - Fifth grade band rehearsals resume 4-4:45pm (Glen Crest)

Rehearsals take place on the following Thursdays: 3/14, 3/21, 4/04, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, 5/02, 5/09, 5/16

May 20, 2025 - Spring Band Concert 6 p.m. (Glen Crest Middle School)
