Builders Club
-
Builders Club is a service club for middle school students and runs all year. It is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, just like its high school version, Key Club. The focus of our club is serving through "time and talent" in our local communities. Meeting days will vary, but they will always be publicized in the school announcements, so if you miss a meeting you can still get the information about what projects are going on.
There are no requirements to join and no requirements on how often a member must participate; however, it is vital to remember that a student is expected to keep any commitment they make to a particular service project.
The club typically has two to four service projects per month and generally meets twice a month on Mondays.
If you have any questions about Builders Club, contact Meghan Sedlacek at msedlacek@ccsd89.org.

Builders Club meeting—Monday, 4/8
- Saturday, 4/13: We will be doing an indoor environmental project at SCARCE from 9am-12pm. There will be 2 shifts: 9-10:30 and 10:30-12:00. You can sign up for one or both. There is no paperwork needed, but you do need to provide your own transportation (it is just minutes from Glen Crest): Go north on Route 53; make a left on Pershing; on Pershing take the next right turn into a building complex—go to building #2 and the large SCARCE sign in front of the building.
- Saturday, 4/13: Kiwanis, our sponsoring organization, is conducting a food drive at the Jewel and Walmart stores in Glen Ellyn. They need volunteers to pass out fliers as they come in the store. The fliers will have the most needed items at the Food Pantry. Hopefully the customer would buy some of those items as they shop and then drop them off with us when they leave the store. We will take a donation also. All food and money goes to the food pantry.
There are two shifts for this at each store: 9-11, 11-1. There would be at least one other Kiwanian helping out. There is only a need for 1-2 Builders Club volunteers at each store at each shift.
- Saturday, 4/27: 10:00am-12:00pm: We will be going to the Danada Forest Preserve to help with an environmental project outdoors. Although it may be warm, you should wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and shoes (no open-toed footwear). Also, bring a water bottle. You do need to fill out a waiver. You also need to provide your own transportation (it is only about 5-10 minutes from Glen Crest): Go south on Route 53 to Butterfield; go west on Butterfield to Naperville Rd; go south on Naperville about .3 mile—go east (left) into the Forest Preserve (sign says Equestrian Center)
**If it is raining, volunteers will be notified of cancellation that morning by 9:00. The “rain date” for this event would be next Saturday, 5/4.
- Saturday, 5/11: Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast from 8am-12pm. Volunteers are servers, but also get a free breakfast! There are 2 shifts: 8-10, 10-12. There is no paperwork and you provide your own transportation. The event is at the First United Methodist Church, 424 Forest Ave, Glen Ellyn.
The meeting originally scheduled for 4/29 is cancelled. Our last meeting will be our year-end celebration on Friday, 5/17. More details on this will come as we get closer to the date.
