The Association of School Business Officials has awarded Community Consolidated School District 89 with the Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the organization’s highest honor for transparency and integrity. This is the 26th consecutive year that the district has earned the ASBO Certificate of Excellence.
“This award should provide an additional layer of reassurance to all our residents that their tax dollars are being used wisely to support student learning,” said CCSD 89 superintendent Doug Eccarius. “I appreciate the meticulous and diligent work of everyone on our district’s finance team. This award shows that other organizations also recognize their excellence.”
Maureen Jones has been the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations since 2010. In addition to Jones, the CCSD 89 Finance Department includes Finance Office Assistant Courtney Czerwinski, Accounting Coordinator Wendy Nadeau, and Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist Jill Urso.
ASBO’s recognition demonstrates the district’s commitment to fiscal integrity. Jones said the certificate can be part of improving the district’s credit rating and is one of the factors that can allow the district to borrow at more favorable rates.
“If you were a corporation, this certificate is what you would look for to determine if you want to invest in the company,” Jones said. “We get audited, and now this is a third set of eyes that confirms the district’s money is well managed.”
ASBO International, founded in 1910, is a professional organization with approximately 5,000 members. ASBO provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of business practices, professional growth, and effective use of educational resources.
