“Shrek Jr.” is directed by Glen Crest teachers Amanda Hope and Sam Koppitz.
The plot for Shrek Jr. is similar to the classic 2001 movie but with some musical additions.
“It’s silly and quirky and funny,” Hope said. “The show’s got a really great message: everyone should be accepted for their uniqueness.”
Hope has been very impressed with the cast, which has been rehearsing since February.
“There is a line in the play that says: ‘what makes us special, makes us strong’, and that applies to our entire cast and crew. All the parts are so integral,” Hope said. “I feel like this show just continues to raise the level of professionalism we see from students each year.”
This year, a few elementary school students will also be part of the show. At each performance, a student from one of the four CCSD 89 elementary schools will join the cast to play “Little Ogre” in the opening scene.
