8th grade boys basketball

The Glen Crest eighth-grade boys basketball team earned the regular-season conference championship after finishing with an overall record of 17-0, including 11 victories in conference over Illinois Prairie Athletic Conference opponents.

Glen Crest head coach Danny Sheridan said after losing four games in seventh grade, the team was focused on earning the conference championship this year. The team had only one game this season decided by less than 10 points.

“There is great chemistry on this team,” Sheridan said. “The players really like each other, and they root for each other. They have gotten everyone’s best shot all year and been up for the challenge.”

The Spartans will enter this week’s conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. They have a bye in the first round, so their initial game in the tournament will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday vs. Edison Middle School. The game will be played at Hubble Middle School.

If the boys win their first game, they would play in the conference championship game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Westlake Middle School.

The seventh-grade boys are a third seed and will open the tournament with a home game at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Hadley.

The eighth-grade team members are: Luke Bogue, Myles Clarin, Jelani Collins, George Cook, Brenden Fitzgerald, Cooper Fort, Branson Full, Tommy Garakat, Mason Lappe, Austin McGee, Tyler Milnamow, Kobi Steinhart, Chris Vala, and Jacob Wayman.
