At a special meeting held on Wednesday, October 1, members of the Community Consolidated School District 89 Board of Education unanimously selected Sean Glennon to fill a Board vacancy.
“I’m grateful for the chance to serve on the Board, and I look forward to working with our families and neighbors across the district,” Glennon said. “I believe we all have a role in building strong schools and a strong community.”
Glennon and his wife have three children who attend Westfield Elementary School. He will fill the vacancy created when Scott Pope resigned from the Board of Education in August. Pope, who also had children who attended Westfield, stepped down after more than 10 years as a Board Member.
Because there were fewer than 868 days remaining in Pope’s term, his seat was filled by a vote of the other six board members. The Board received six applications to fill Pope’s seat and interviewed each candidate who applied.
“I’d like to thank the current Board members who committed a significant amount of time to the interview and selection process,” said Board President Yannick Koger. “We are very excited to have Sean join us. His background in corporate planning and human resources will undoubtedly be helpful as the district begins work on a new, five-year strategic plan.”
During the brief Board meeting, the Board also elected Jessica McGee to serve as Board Secretary Pro Tem. Pope had previously been the Board’s Secretary Pro Tem. Yannick Koger remains the Board President; Steve Neurauter is the Board Vice President.
About Sean Glennon
From elementary school in Lombard to college at the University of Illinois, Glennon has always attended public schools. The impact of a strong, well-rounded public education in his own life was one of the reasons he applied to fill the Board vacancy.
Glennon grew up in Lombard and graduated from Glenbard East High School. He earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s degree in human resources and industrial relations from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
Glennon has worked for nearly two decades as a human resources leader at global Fortune 500 companies. Early in his career, he moved to Houston, Texas, where he met his wife, Michelle. When they decided to start a family, the couple chose Glen Ellyn as the place to raise their family.
“It resonates with me that the district recognizes and values the strengths in our diverse community,” he said. “I love that our kids get to grow up learning from so many different perspectives and ideas.”
Glennon has been involved in the local schools previously, including serving on the district’s finance committee, mentoring students in the Glenbard Entrepreneurship INCubator Program, and volunteering at Westfield.
Glennon and his wife, Michelle Glennon, have children in kindergarten, second grade, and fourth grade. Michelle is also involved in District 89, volunteering and serving as secretary of the Westfield PTC.
