The Community Consolidated School District 89 Board of Education has approved the terms of a five-year collective bargaining agreement with the D89 Education Association that will last through the 2029-30 school year. The D89 Education Association represents the certified teachers in the district.
At the June meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the agreement, which had previously been ratified by Association members.
“The members of the Board of Education are pleased to reach an agreement that is in the best interests of our students, staff, and taxpayers,” said CCSD 89 Board President Yannick Koger. “The Board appreciates the collaborative and thorough work done by the members of the Association and CCSD 89 staff to reach a new agreement.”
Bargaining teams for the Board and the Association worked together for several months with the shared goal of reaching an agreement before the start of the 2025-26 school year.
“The Association and the Board have a strong history of working together to reach an agreement that increases the district’s ability to attract and retain excellent teachers who will continue to create great educational experiences for the children in this community,” said Education Association co-presidents Tracy Dietel and Jude Locke. “This agreement recognizes the invaluable contributions of our educators and honors the difficult work they do to deliver a high-quality education.”
The new agreement reduces the time teachers are out of the classroom, includes a commitment to focus on teacher workload conditions, and allows more consistent time for professional development, staff meetings, grade-level problem-solving, and teacher-led professional collaboration focused on students’ academic improvement. The agreement also includes a commitment to increase health benefit options and continues to tie teacher compensation to the Consumer Price Index.
“Coming together on the issues that are so important to our employees and their families provides stability for students, for staff, and for the district,” said CCSD 89 Superintendent Doug Eccarius.
This contract will go through August 2030.
