Fire at Pershing building

Residents are invited to support three CCSD 89 families that were displaced by a recent fire in a Glen Ellyn apartment building.

Two Park View Elementary School students and two Glen Crest Middle School students were impacted by the fire that occurred around 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, in the 700 block of Pershing Avenue, Glen Ellyn. Although there were no serious injuries, the families lost most of their possessions in the fire.

If you would like to help these families recover, the district is accepting gift cards to Aldi, Jewel, Target, and Walmart.

Donations can be dropped off at the front desk on the first floor of the district office at 22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn. Donations can also be mailed to CCSD 89, 22w600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137, ATTN: Katie Kreller.

Any donations will be delivered directly to the affected CCSD 89 families.

Update: Park View Elementary School Brownie Troop 56764 is hosting a lemonade stand fundraiser to benefit the Park View and Glen Crest families.

Funds will be used to purchase gift cards to Aldi, Jewel, Target, and Walmart for the families. The lemonade fundraiser is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the corner of Pershing Ave and Nicoll Way, in front of the apartment complex where the fire occurred. (Rain date: July 29.)

New, full-sized toiletries will also be accepted for donation for the families and for the school district to keep on hand for families in need.

Gift cards are also still being accepted at the district office.

Update: Thank you to everyone who has donated clothing. We no longer need further clothing donations.
