The Arbor View PTC will officially open the school’s new playground during a brief ceremony Thursday afternoon at the elementary school. Seven companies that donated more than $2,500 to the project will cut the ribbon at 4:45 p.m. alongside Arbor View Principal Dr. David Bruno.Arbor View playground

The Arbor View Parent Teacher Council raised more than $100,000 for the playground, by selling brick pavers, hosting a 5K race, and holding various fundraisers. The new playground is age appropriate for preschool through fifth graders. It includes features that are more accessible for all students, including a spinner that students who use wheelchairs can ride.

After a summer of construction, the playground opened for the start of the 2018-19 school year.

“If you go over there after school is out, the playground is just packed,” said Arbor View PTC President Julie Lerch. “The kids are just having fun and there’s so many things to explore. The hard work all of us did – it makes it all worth it to see their faces and how much fun they’re having now. We’re all so very proud of it.”

The seven companies and organizations that gave more than $2,500 in donations or in-kind services will help cut the ribbon Thursday. The school also invited everyone who donated more than $250 to the project to attend the ceremony. Their names will be included on a plaque at the playground.

The playground ribbon cutting will be preceded by a 4:15 p.m. ribbon cutting for the new MakerSpace area in the school at 22W430 Ironwood Drive, Glen Ellyn.
