STEM information

  • STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  These are the academic areas which are the focus of STEM Challenge.  High-performing students in grades 2-5 are identified as needing more rigorous STEM learning opportunities than offered in their grade-level classroom. These children receive above-grade level services in Mrs. Aiello's STEM classroom at Arbor View School three hours per week during the Math block.

Learning targets and objectives are aligned with the Common Core and College and Career Ready standards, as well as Next Generation Science Standards, at advanced grade levels. Some units at the various grade levels may include Scientific Method Investigations, Measurement, Architecture, Computer Coding, and Hands-On Equations (Algebraic Thinking). Computer, public speaking, and teamwork skills are incorporated into our units, providing those 21st Century learning skills required for our future success.
