Mrs. Alaina Dettlo
Hello! My name is Alaina Dettlo and I am honored to be part of the Westfield community. As an interventionist, I support kindergarten through fifth-grade students in reading and math. I love this role because it allows me to get to know and work with students across the whole school. My favorite part of teaching is watching students gain confidence in their skills and take pride in their learning.
I graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with my bachelor's degree in 2011 and stayed in the area to begin my teaching career. I worked in Urbana as a third-grade teacher for six years and as a literacy interventionist for four years. During that time, I also earned my master's degree and reading teacher endorsement from the U of I. Although I loved my time there, I always knew that I wanted to come back to the Chicago suburbs to be closer to my family. Therefore, I was thrilled by the opportunity to join District 89 in 2021.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and pets. I like to relax by reading good books, taking my dog (Jasper) for long walks, watching Chicago sports with my husband, and bingeing my favorite shows on Netflix. As someone who comes from a family of educators, being a teacher is a huge part of my life. I hope to share my love of learning and make a positive impact on my students here at Westfield! Please reach out if there is anything I can do to support your student's learning.
