Westfield Principal Matt McDonald
Westfield Elementary School Principal Matt McDonald is a second-generation principal. His father was a teacher and principal in Texas. As a kid, McDonald saw the satisfaction his father received from being part of a team that was working toward the goal of having an impact on students’ futures.
“Seeing kids enthusiastic about learning – that’s when it’s most exciting,” McDonald said. “I have elementary-school-age children and I want every Westfield student to enjoy school and learning, just like I want that for my own kids. I’m going to walk into that building and see 350 more children of my own.”
After graduating from Wheaton College, McDonald started his career at Partners for Success, a DuPage County alternative school. He spent the next eight years at Hadley Junior High in Glen Ellyn, where he taught science and math. McDonald was then the assistant principal at Marquardt Middle School in Glendale Heights. He was named principal at Westfield starting in July 2020.
McDonald has a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Northern Illinois University.
McDonald and his wife, Ali, live in Warrenville with their four children: Abby, Kate, Emmy, and Timmy. As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors.
