Community Consolidated School District 89 is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Board Secretary Scott Pope.
Pope resigned after more than 10 years as a Board Member. He and his wife have three children who all went through CCSD 89 schools.
“This decision was not made lightly, as serving on the board for the past 10 years has been a deeply rewarding experience,” Pope said. “However, due to increasing personal commitments, I find myself unable to dedicate the time and energy required to fully support the Board and the students of our district.”
The candidate selected would fulfill the remainder of Pope’s term, which expires in April 2027. Because there are fewer than 868 days remaining in Pope’s term, his seat will be filled by a new board member who is appointed by a vote of board members. Anyone interested in being considered for the appointment must submit three items: a letter of interest, a current resume, and a candidate information form.
The candidate application form can be found at: https://5il.co/3o595
Anyone interested in applying for the vacancy is invited to attend an informational session from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27. The meeting will be held via Zoom. RSVP to Theresa Sevier at tsevier@ccsd89.org in order to receive the link to the meeting.
The letter, resume, and information form are due to Board Secretary Theresa Sevier by 4 p.m. on Monday, September 8.
The letter and resume can be emailed to tsevier@ccsd89.org. They can also be dropped off or mailed to: Theresa Sevier, Community Consolidated School District 89, 22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.
To apply for the Board, a resident must:
Be at least 18 years old by the date of the appointment
Be a registered voter
Have lived in Illinois and the CCSD 89 boundaries for at least one year
Be a citizen of the United States

Interviews with the Board will take place during a closed session. The new Board Member will be seated after a public vote from the remaining six board members.
Pope was elected to the Board of Education in April 2015. The appointed Board Member will fill out the remainder of Pope’s term, which expires in 2027.
Pope said that even after 10 years of service, the decision to resign was not an easy one. During his time on the Board, he was part of hiring two superintendents, implementation of full-day kindergarten, new school boundaries, two referendums, and the pandemic.
“The district persevered through many challenges, and I am sure there will be more in the future,” he said. “I am confident that the board, administration, district, and community will continue to handle those challenges and thrive.”
