Note from Dr. Jessica Langman Hello Briar Glen Families, The first week of the 26-27 school year is in the books! The energy and excitement these past two days has been amazing! My heart was so full seeing all of the smiling faces and all of our Bulldogs walking the red carpet into the new school year! Today, our students participated in Bulldog Expectation Stations. During these stations, the students learned/reviewed expectations for how to be a respectful, responsible and safe Bulldog in all of the places and spaces at our school. We ended the rotation stations with our "Pawsitive Paws" assembly. This was a great celebration where the students learned about assembly expectations and came together as a school community to learn about how to earn "Pawsitive Paws" for demonstrating safe, respectful and responsible behavior at school. We will be earning these tickets throughout the trimester and when the school reaches our ticket goal, we will have a school wide celebration. I am looking forward to meeting with all of the classes over the next few weeks during a morning meeting to review what they learned today. Once I have met with all of the classrooms, the students will be coming home with a behavior pledge to share with their family. Thank you in advance for taking time to review this with your child/children. We are so lucky to have excellent partnerships in learning with our families here at Briar Glen! Let's Go Bulldogs! Brair Glen Curriculum Night is Wednesday, August 26 from 6:00-7:30pm Curriculum Night is an excellent opportunity to hear about what your child will be learning this school year. Curriculum Night will begin in the gym with an introduction of our staff and a short presentation by me. The teachers will run two back to back sessions of the same content to allow for parents of students at different grade levels to visit each classroom. We are looking forward to seeing you there! |

Orchestra in CCSD 89 4th Grade Families - Many of you signed your child up for 4th grade orchestra at the end of last school year. If you have not done so already (or are not quite sure if you did or not!), please make sure to fill out this form. Families can track bus travel with free FirstView app Families can track their student’s bus trips to and from school with a free busing app. The FirstView 1.0 app can track the bus, show an estimated number of minutes until the bus will arrive at a stop, and send a notification when buses arrive at school. FirstView 1.0 requires a district code to set up tracking. The code for Community Consolidated School District 89 for the 2026-27 school year is: Z6S4N CCSD 89 bus routes are expected to be available in the app by the end of this week.
The FirstView app is available for Apple and Android users and can be identified by its red icon. Families that had been using the previous FirstView app will need to download the new version called “FirstView 1.0”. The app will track both regular-education and special-education busing. Reminder: District policy on cell phones and personal devices during school day Per CCSD 89 policy, cell phones and other personal electronic devices must remain out of sight and may not be used during the school day. While recent state legislation mandating this takes effect in 2027–28, our district policy is already active. Devices must be put away throughout the instructional day unless an approved exception is documented with the district. This policy helps to minimize distractions, disruptions and privacy concerns. If your child uses their phone to manage a medical condition or for an approved academic reason, families should complete the CCSD 89 Student Use of Personal Technology Waiver on an annual basis to request an exemption. Completed forms should be returned to the Briar Glen main office. |

Reminder: Always bring an ID when visiting our school As a reminder, anyone who is visiting Briar Glen Elementary or picking up students early must check in using the iPad in our school's lobby. You will need to bring an ID (license, state ID, passport) whenever you are picking up a student or visiting during the school day. The check-in process takes less than two minutes, and it is an important part of our safety system.

GPS Parent Series webinar program kicks off August 20 CCSD 89 is excited to again partner with the GPS Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families to offer families and school staff free access to expert discussions and actionable, research-backed guidance on modern issues affecting students and parents alike. Topics are presented several times per month, held at noon and 7 p.m. CT in four languages and focused on every phase of development from early childhood through the transition to college and career. The first program for 2026-27 will feature Dr. David Yeager discussing how to “Start the School Year Strong: The Science of Motivating Young People" on Thursday, August 20. Details and information on the full 2026-27 program of virtual, hybrid, and in-person events, along with Zoom links to join each program, can be found at GPSParentSeries.org.
