Hello Briar Glen Families,

It was wonderful to see and meet so many of our families at curriculum night this past Thursday. If you were unable to attend, no problem. I am attaching the parent presentation to this week's newsletter. This link will take you to the presentation where you will find information about Briar Glen and supporting your student/s for a successful and engaging school year. This coming week, Grades 1-5 will be taking the MAP test in both reading and math. These tests are administered three times of year. Soon after the testing window closes in September, you will receive a MAP report for your student/s. It is helpful to remind your student/s to take their time during the testing sessions and supporting a good night's sleep and sending a healthy snack are great ways to ensure a successful testing experience. You can reach out to your student/s teacher to check the days for testing in their classroom. Have a great weekend ahead!

September 7: NO SCHOOL - Labor Day

All CCSD 89 schools will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. School will resume with a regular schedule for all students on Tuesday, September 8.

The district's administrative offices will also be closed September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

If you’re bringing food to school, be sure you know which foods are approved. You can see the pre-approved food list at www.ccsd89.org/preapproved or under Quick Links on the district’s website.

Raider Pride Night at Glenbard South is Friday, September 11. All CCSD 89 students are invited to attend the football game at 7:00 p.m. to cheer on the Raiders and be a part of the larger Raider community. CCSD 89 students should wear their school spiritwear or school colors for free admission! Glenbard South student athletes will be visiting our school during lunch periods the week of September 7 to promote this spirit event. More details will follow.

4th Grade Families - Many of you signed your child up for 4th grade orchestra at the end of last school year. If you have not done so already (or are not quite sure if you did or not!), please make sure to fill out this form. Save the date for Saturday, September 12 - Beginning Orchestra Try Out Day at Glen Crest Middle School. The deadline to sign up for orchestra is August 28. Any questions? At noon and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, Dr. Richard Davidson and Dr. Cortland Dahl will join Judson Brewer, MD, for “Born to Flourish: Science and Ancient Wisdom Reveal a Simple Path to Thrive.” Attendees will discover practical strategies to help students manage academic pressure and anxiety without burning out while gaining insights into effective communication techniques for teens and tweens.

Families can track their student’s bus trips to and from school with a free busing app. The FirstView 1.0 app can track the bus, show an estimated number of minutes until the bus will arrive at a stop, and send a notification when buses arrive at school.

FirstView 1.0 requires a district code to set up tracking. The code for Community Consolidated School District 89 for the 2026-27 school year is: Z6S4N

CCSD 89 bus routes are expected to be available in the app by the end of this week.

The FirstView app is available for Apple and Android users and can be identified by its red icon. Families that had been using the previous FirstView app will need to download the new version called “FirstView 1.0”. The app will track both regular-education and special-education busing.

Per CCSD 89 policy, cell phones and other personal electronic devices must remain out of sight and may not be used during the school day. While recent state legislation mandating this takes effect in 2027–28, our district policy is already active. Devices must be put away throughout the instructional day unless an approved exception is documented with the district. This policy helps to minimize distractions, disruptions and privacy concerns. If your child uses their phone to manage a medical condition or for an approved academic reason, families should complete the CCSD 89 Student Use of Personal Technology Waiver on an annual basis to request an exemption. Completed forms should be returned to the Briar Glen main office.

As a reminder, anyone who is visiting Briar Glen Elementary or picking up students early must check in using the iPad in our school's lobby. You will need to bring an ID (license, state ID, passport) whenever you are picking up a student or visiting during the school day. The check-in process takes less than two minutes, and it is an important part of our safety system.
