Update (Saturday, August 30) from the Glen Ellyn Police Department
After a thorough investigation, police were able to determine that there was no criminal intent regarding this incident. No probable cause exists for charges, and no further investigation is warranted.
This incident involved a ride-share driver. A language barrier between the driver and the child contributed to a misunderstanding that there may have been criminal intentions at play.
We would like to thank all the members of the community who provided valuable information that allowed us to quickly identify and interview all the involved parties and witnesses.

From the Glen Ellyn Police Department:
This morning, we received a report of a motorist offering a ride to a student who was walking to school. The student did not know the driver of the vehicle.
It was reported that the driver pulled up to the student, opened the passenger-side door, and asked the child if they wanted a ride. The student declined the offer and reported the encounter to a parent, who promptly called 911.
The driver was described as a white male with an average build, dark hair, and a “heavy” accent. The vehicle was described as a black Toyota sedan with passenger-side damage.
The vehicle was last seen northbound near the intersection of Ellyn Avenue and Sheehan Avenue.
Officers are currently working to identify the driver, the vehicle, and any potential witnesses.
Anyone who has information or video footage that would help police identify the driver is asked to dial 911.
We commend the student who reported this incident without delay. Officers will be conducting extra patrols around our schools.
