Students, families invited to District 89 Day of Service on May 3
CCSD 89 students and their families are invited to participate in the second annual District 89 Day of Service on Saturday, May 3, at Park View Elementary. Students and adults will have the opportunity to make crafts and assemble care packages to benefit others.
Families can sign up to participate from 9 to 10 a.m. or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on May 3. Both sessions will have the same activities.
Families can choose to participate in up to six service projects:
-
Making cat toys for an animal shelter
-
Decorating a pot for planting native wildflowers
-
Creating cards for hospitalized children
-
Making sunshine cards for troops and veterans
-
Building egg carton flower gardens for local senior homes
-
Creating friendship bracelets to be shared with those in need
Sign up at this link: https://forms.gle/T2oZgw6UP3YWAmhu8. The event is limited to 200 CCSD 89 students and family members. This is a free event students and their families participate in together; this is not a drop-off event.
Volunteers are also needed to set up, clean up, and help lead stations. Sign up to volunteer at this link.
Donations to help those in need
At the event, the Glen Ellyn Library will also be collecting school supplies and personal items that will be distributed through the library’s Community Cupboard. Families can donate school supplies (folders, pencils, notebooks, highlighters, calculators), new clothing (socks, ponchos, hats, gloves), and/or personal items (diapers, tissues, wipes, hair and tooth care items, bandages, sunscreen). All items should be new and unused.
The Community Cupboard is an open cabinet in the library’s lobby that contains free items for anyone who needs them. People are encouraged to help themselves to items they need.
If you have questions or donations, contact Arbor View challenge teacher Morgan Aiello at maiello@ccsd89.org or (630) 469-5505.
This event is in collaboration with Inside Out Club and supported by the Glen Ellyn Public Library.
