‘Penny Wars’ competition January 8-17 will support a good cause
Clean out your change jars and check the couch cushions: it’s time for Penny Wars!
All CCSD 89 students will be able to compete against classmates in the fundraising competition, which will run from Wednesday, January 8, through Friday, January 17.
The district’s two Student Board Members, Emma Waldbusser and Brooke Wills, organized the fundraising competition. This is the fourth year that student board members have organized Penny Wars.
This year, donations from all five schools will go to “Little City”, an organization that offers services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Some CCSD 89 students receive services at Little City.
How “Penny Wars” works
From January 8 to January 17, there will be three jars in each school to collect donations. When a student puts silver coins or dollars in their team’s jar, their team earns points. When a student puts pennies in another team’s jar, that team loses points.
At Glen Crest, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will compete against each other.
At the elementary schools, the groups will be: preschool/kindergarten/first grade vs. second/third grade vs. fourth/fifth grade.
The competition will end on Friday, January 17. The grade level(s) with the most points at each school will earn a popsicle party.
