CCSD 89 Board of Education honored for exceptional governance
The Community Consolidated School District 89 Board of Education has been honored for the board members’ commitment to effective governance and obtaining the knowledge to effectively lead the district. CCSD 89 was one of only 46 school boards to earn the School Board Governance Recognition honor from the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB).
“I’m so happy that IASB is recognizing the members of our Board of Education for the work we see them doing on a regular basis: passionately supporting our students, staff, families, and community members,” said CCSD 89 Superintendent Doug Eccarius. “Our seven Board Members work tirelessly to do what’s best and they always keep the community’s best interests in mind.”
IASB’s School Board Governance Recognition program honors school boards that practice good governance behaviors focused on full board development and participation. If the Board of Education meets the IASB requirements, they are awarded a two-year honorary distinction.
To earn the School Board Governance Recognition, the Board Members needed to demonstrate that all members had:
-
Adopted and communicated Board goals, conducted orientation for new members, adopted a Board code of conduct, and conducted a self-evaluation.
-
Taken steps to connect with the community beyond Board meetings, and engaged in a two-way conversation.
-
Conducted an annual review of the superintendent.
-
Monitored progress toward district goals.
The IASB School Board Governance Recognition program aims to showcase how good governance has a positive impact on students, staff, and the community.
The members of the CCSD 89 Board of Education are: Board President Jay Lerch, Board Vice President Yannick Koger, Board Secretary Pro Tem Scott Pope, Board Members Donna Kemp, Jessica McGee, Steve Neurauter, and Haydee Núñez; and Student Board Members Emma Waldbusser and Brooke Wills.
The Illinois Association of School Boards is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening public schools through local citizen control.
The board can only earn the Governance Recognition once every two years. To learn more about the award, and see the list of districts that were honored, go to: https://www.iasb.com/training/recognition.cfm
