Glen Crest students selected for prestigious ILMEA music festival
Glen Crest Middle School seventh-grade students Myles Clarin and Mila Fousias were selected to participate in the prestigious Illinois Music Education Association District IX Junior Division Festival.
Clarin and Fousias were selected from hundreds of middle-school students who auditioned. To participate, they had to submit online auditions that were evaluated by professional musicians.
The ILMEA Festival was held on Saturday, November 16, at Streamwood High School. At the festival, students rehearsed with other middle school students and participated in learning workshops. In the evening, Clarin and Fousias students performed alongside students from across the region.
Clarin recently changed from playing the clarinet to the alto saxophone. He loves the saxophone’s jazz sound and he enjoys performing with other musicians.
Fousias has been playing viola for six years. She enjoys the instrument’s deep sound. She likes how music gives her the opportunity to meet new people.
The Glen Crest band is led by Katie Berry and Lev Garbar. The Glen Crest orchestra is led Kristi Kline and Andrew Ladendorf.
