Deadline to apply for 2024 summer school is April 15

CCSD 89 is again offering expanded summer school for kindergarten-through-seventh-grade students. Summer school will start June 10 and run through June 28, with no school on June 19. Classes will be 8 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday at Park View Elementary School, 250 S. Park Avenue, Glen Ellyn.

You can enroll your student through the link that was sent to all families via email at 6 p.m. Monday, April 8.

The deadline to complete the form is 7 p.m. Monday, April 15.

Although the CCSD 89 program has expanded significantly from previous years, there are still a limited number of spots. If there are more applicants than seats at a grade level, spots will be filled in the order that applications were received.

Everyone will be notified by Wednesday, April 17, whether they are enrolled in summer school.

The 2024 summer school program is not an acceleration program. It is designed for students who need to review 2023-24 skills and standards. The summer school program is not recommended for families who know they will miss one week of classes between June 10 and June 28. Current eighth-grade students would take summer school through the high school district.

About summer school

There is no cost for the 2024 summer school program. Transportation (if needed) is provided. Class sizes will be smaller than during a typical school year. Lessons will be focused on math and reading with social work embedded into every classroom.

Summer school courses are taught by CCSD 89 certified teachers. Glen Crest Assistant Principal Sammy Smith will be the principal. There will be a registered nurse on staff for a student who needs to take medication or if there is an emergency.
