Eighth grade girls basketball completes undefeated season

The Glen Crest Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team completed an undefeated season by winning the DuPage Metro Valley Association Conference tournament vs. Herrick on March 13. 

The Spartans were regular-season and conference tournament champions. The team finished the season with 19 wins and zero losses.

“When the season started, we never thought we would be undefeated, but the players were very motivated,” said Glen Crest coach Danny Sheridan. “As they kept winning, their confidence grew.”

Early in the season, the team won a few close non-conference games, then beat three other teams to earn the Jay Stream Tournament championship. Not long after that, players started to talk about the opportunity to finish the season undefeated.

Sheridan admired how each player knew their role on the team and that commitment elevated the entire team. The team also had a deep bench; reserves were able to get significant minutes throughout the season, including the championship game.

“They really just genuinely enjoyed each other’s success and played for each other,” Sheridan said.

Members of the eighth-grade girls basketball team are: Julia Alcala, Alexis Baygood, Paige Bogue, Molly Clarin, Emma Eirich, Erin Fitzgerald, Bella Herbert, Cailin Kiley, Lilly Pagano, Aleksa Svarogina, Aspen Usalis, and Kaylie Zeman.
