“Little Mermaid  Jr.” is based on the 1989 Disney musical that was inspired by the Hans Christian Anderson story. The play follows Ariel, a mermaid who longs to leave her ocean home. With help from her sea friends, Ariel must defy her father and make a deal with an evil sea witch to discover if life is better outside the water.

The show is directed by Glen Crest teachers Amanda Schmidt and Sam Koppitz.

Schmidt said this year’s show has a good mix of returning cast and first-time performers, which makes for a tight-knit group during the two months of practice and rehearsals. In March, the cast will also be traveling to the elementary schools to give short performances at all four schools.

“They’re all just super excited to perform,” Schmidt said. “That’s the goal: to give them experiences that they can take with them and look back on fondly.”
