CCSD 89 Board approves 2023-24 school year calendar

The Community Consolidated School District 89 Board of Education approved the 2023-24 school year calendar at the January Board meeting.

The first day of the 2023-24 school year for students will be Wednesday, August 23. Staff will start the school year with two planning days on Monday, August 21, and Tuesday, August 22.

The 2023-24 school year is starting about one week later than previous years due to the summer construction schedule. The later start will allow time to complete the extensive work on roofs, school entrances, lighting, and mechanical systems that was approved in the November bond referendum.

The 2023-24 school year will also end about one week later than the previous year. The last day of the 2023-24 school year will be May 29, 2024, if no emergency days are used. If all five emergency days are used, the last day would be June 5, 2024.

The dates for the first set of fall conferences have not yet been finalized. The district will add those dates to the calendar once they are approved and communicate the dates with families.

The state of Illinois previously granted the district's waiver to combine several half-days into full days of professional development for staff. The decision to reduce the number of half days was the result of feedback from families.
