Twelve Glen Crest students selected to participate in prestigious music festival
Twelve Glen Crest Middle School students participated in an online music festival after they were chosen from hundreds of local students who auditioned. The Glen Crest students were selected to play in the Illinois Music Education Association District IX Junior Division Festival, which was held online this year.
These Spartans were chosen to be a part of the ILMEA concert:
Band
Grace Bittlingmaier (8th grade) - trombone
Emma Briggs (7th grade) - trumpet
Abigail Edwards (8th grade) - clarinet
Elise Fey (8th grade) - trumpet
Sarah Goodin (8th grade) - French horn
Josephine Kiley (8th grade) - trumpet
Kaitlyn Urbanowicz (8th grade) - euphonium
Orchestra
Natalie Buhle (8th grade) - violin
Maddox Daniels (7th grade) - double bass
Isabella Dodd (8th grade) - viola
Kaitlyn Haas (8th grade) - violin
Olivia Weber (8th grade) - viola
Glen Crest students were competing against students from Aurora, Algonquin, Elgin, Naperville, St. Charles, Wheaton, and Yorkville.
This year, the ILMEA was not able to hold an in-person district festival, but the ILMEA Board found new ways for students to receive a high-quality music experience. On November 14, the students heard a motivational keynote address, then split into instrument-alike groups to participate in two different master classes via Zoom.
Glen Crest band teachers are Katrina Berry and Lev Garbar. Glen Crest orchestra teachers are Kristi Kline and Andrew Ladendorf.
