March 15: A message from Superintendent Dr. Emily Tammaru
CCSD 89 families:
Welcome to a new type of school year. I wish all our kids were getting ready to return to their classrooms tomorrow. But since we can't be together in person, we'll have to find new ways to travel our path. No matter how long we are out of school, education will continue in Community Consolidated School District 89. As educators, our job is to keep kids safe and educated. Our staff will do that to the very best of their ability.
A few important items you should know:
- Communication: The district will be sending an email home Monday with more information about remote learning. Please continue to check your email, the district website, and the district's social media sites for information. The latest information will be continually posted at www.ccsd89.org/COVID
- Schedule: Monday is a non-attendance day. Remote learning begins Tuesday. The district and your student's teacher will contact you ahead of Tuesday to share the learning plan.
- Chromebooks: A few families shared that they were having issues accessing the internet from the district's Chromebooks. Our technology team worked through the weekend to solve this issue. If you were having connectivity issues, I encourage you to try logging in again. If you need further help, contact info@ccsd89.org.
The CCSD 89 team is ready for this challenge. Throughout this weekend, CCSD 89 teams have met to prepare for this new educational landscape. We have plans to make sure students get food, special-education services, access to counselors, and learning materials - no matter their circumstances at home. We will be communicating more details about those plans on Monday.
Of course, this is a rapidly changing situation and there will still be unexpected complications ahead. We will continue to adjust and work toward the best resolution for your kids. There will be opportunities for families to provide feedback so we can continue to perfect this new temporary form of education.
The beginning of this experience will likely feel very disorienting. This will be new for you, and new for us. More important: this is going to be very different and unsettling for our young learners. If you see them struggling and need guidance or support from us to help them, please reach out to our staff.
The district will continue to adapt and communicate. Updates and resources will be posted on the district's website at www.ccsd89.org/COVID.
I would like to thank all the families who have reached out with offers to help. I am blessed to be part of such a generous, caring community. I apologize if we have not been able to reply to everyone, but we will get back to you.
Thank you for all you do to support our students. It's never been more true that we can't do this without you. Stay safe.
