Families invited to join in musical celebrations at December concerts
Families are invited to celebrate the musical talents of Community Consolidated School District 89 students during the upcoming winter concerts.
The winter orchestra concerts will be held at 6 and 7:30 p.m. December 11, at Glen Crest Middle School, 725 Sheehan Avenue, Glen Ellyn. The winter chorus concert will be at 7 p.m. December 12, at Glen Crest. The winter band concert will be at 7 p.m. December 17, at Glenbard South High School, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn.
There is no admission to any of the concerts.
(Note: The orchestra concert was re-scheduled due to a water-main break at the school. December 11 is the new date. More info.)
Orchestra concert: 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. December 11 at Glen Crest
At the 6 p.m. concert, both the Primo (fourth grade) and the Intermediate (sixth grade) orchestras will be performing. Primo will be performing “Hot Cross Buns,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “Upon the Presentation of Royalty,” and “Jingle Bells.” Intermediate Orchestra will be performing “Jingle Basses”, as well as “Country Dance,” “Rite at Stonehenge,” and “Sleigh Song.”
At the 7:30 p.m. concert, the Prelude (fifth grade), Chamber, and Concert (seventh/eighth) orchestras will perform. Prelude will be performing a packet of holiday tunes, along with “Pizzicato Fizz” and “Sleigh Ride in the Park.” Chamber Orchestra will be performing “Allegretto” from Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, and “Waltz of the Wicked.” Concert Orchestra is performing two holiday pieces - “Fantasy on Oh Chanukah” and “Wenceslas” - along with “Shepherd’s Hymn” and “Fantasia for Strings.”

Chorus concert: 7 p.m. December 12, at Glen Crest
The chorus concert will include performances by the sixth-grade girls, seventh/eighth-grade girls, and the boys choirs. The program will present a variety of songs including: folk songs, classic rock and pop songs, songs from shows, and holiday songs. The concert will conclude with a medley of holiday songs for which the chorus will invite members of the audience to join them on stage. The chorus is fortunate to have Debbie Hatmaker as the accompanist.
Band concert: 7 p.m. December 17, at Glenbard South High School
The winter band concert will be at 7 p.m. December 17, at Glenbard South High School, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn.
The fifth-grade Beginning Band will perform “Hot Cross Buns,” “Merrily We Roll Along,” “Lightly Row,” “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Beethoven's 9th.” The sixth-grade Concert Band will perform “Chorale and Canon,” “Siberian Sleigh Ride,” and “Roman Fanfare.” The seventh/eighth-grade Symphonic Band will perform “In the Bleak Midwinter,” “Dance of the Tumblers,” “Into the Arctic”, and “Trombones on the Housetop,” featuring the trombone section and special guests.
