Glen Crest musicians excel at Music in the Parks festival
Glen Crest Middle School band, chorus, and orchestra students earned several honors at the recent “Music in the Parks” festival.
Seventh- and eighth-grade music students left Glen Crest early on Saturday, May 11, to head to Viking Middle School in Gurnee, where schools from Illinois and Wisconsin were performing. Each of Glen Crest’s ensembles performed two pieces for judges.
The Glen Crest band, chorus, and orchestra students each earned first place at the competition.
The Glen Crest band and orchestra received a “Superior” rating. The chorus earned an “Excellent” rating.
The Glen Crest band and orchestra were each awarded the competition’s overall trophy, indicating they had the highest scores of all the bands and orchestras who competed in Class A and Class AA.
Music in the Parks is an all-day festival for band, choral, and orchestra students organized by Education Programs Network. The festivals are held throughout the United States. Glen Crest students performed in the morning and then were able to spend the day at Six Flags Great America. The day ends with presentation of awards to individual musicians and ensembles.
