Glen Crest news 12/16/18
Dear Glen Crest families,
One more week until the winter break! I would like to share a Daily Herald article with you about a group of boys who came up with a unique way to honor Connie Meier, our cafeteria manager who passed away earlier this fall. Based on an idea from a book they read, they created a fun contest for students and raised money to donate to Connie’s favorite charity. I am incredibly proud of these boys and all of the students who participated and donated. The article sums it up best:
It’s Holiday Spirit Week!
Monday= Winter Wonderland White Out- wear all white!
Tuesday= Holiday Character Day- Santa, Mrs. Claus, an elf, etc.
Wednesday= Holiday Pajama Day
Thursday= Ugly Sweater Day
Friday= All Out Holiday- wear all things holiday themed!
Please remind your students to stop by the library to check out a book or two for over the break! It’s a perfect opportunity for some relaxing reading! Our Spartacus Book Challenge is still going on!
8th grade boys basketball will be playing at home on Wednesday against rival Herrick at 4:00 for the conference tournament championship. Let's get a great home crowd like we did the last time we played them! Go Glen Crest!
Pink fitness sheets will be going home this weekend for all students. Please sign the white slip and have your son or daughter return it their teacher for a 20 point homework grade. Sheets returned in the new year will be worth 15 points. If you child has make ups to do they will get them done during lunch this week.
All Orchestra students need to wear their blue music shirts and bring their instruments from home for our Winter Music Assembly this Wednesday. Please be in Spartan Hall for tuning/warm-up at 7:45 AM.
All Orchestra students need to turn in their Solo and Ensemble Forms before Friday. Our Sign-Up sheets for practice/coaching will be next week. If you are playing in a group with someone else, please work out when you will need to sign up!
Chamber Orchestra will have rehearsal from 2:45 - 4:15 PM on Monday. We will be rehearsing with Professor Joanne May from Elmhurst College. She is definitely looking forward to working with us, so make sure you are in your seat ready to go! If you need to bring a school-approved snack to eat before rehearsal, you may do so! Please also do not forget to turn in your permission slips and money for our trip to Peoria.
The District 89 Winter band concert will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, in the Glen Crest gym. This concert features the beginning band, 6th grade band, jazz band and 7/8th grade band. Glen Crest students should wear all black or black and white and report with their instruments and music by 6:45pm.
The Music Dept. will perform for Glen Crest students and staff during a morning assembly on Wednesday, Dec. 19th. This concert will feature all of our Glen Crest band, chorus and orchestra members. Students are reminded to wear their Music Dept. T-shirt for this performance. Since it is pajama pant day for spirit week, students may wear their pajama pants instead of jeans for this performance.
8th Grade Boys Volleyball tryouts will begin immediately following the basketball game on Wednesday, December 19th. Approximately 5:15 - 7:15. If necessary, a second tryout will take place from 2:45 - 5 on Thursday, December 20th.
Reminder that 8th grade girls basketball tryouts will be right after break on Monday, Jan. 7th and Tuesday, Jan. 8th from 2:45-5:00. You must have a current physical in order to tryout. Get the physicals in before winter break please! See Mr. Sheridan with any questions.
PRISM is still collecting hygiene and cleaning products for 360 Youth Services in Naperville. The drive will be done December 20th. Items can be left in the laundry basket in the front of the school.
PRISM next meeting is December 20th. Mrs. Nordlund has some friends coming in to do an informal talk. There will be snacks and some singing.
On behalf of the Glen Crest staff, we hope you all enjoy the holidays and the winter break!
Have a good week!
