Glen Crest news 9/23/18
Dear Glen Crest Families,
What a beautiful start to Fall! I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing weekend!
If you haven’t received the envelope with your child’s MAP scores, please ask them for it. You should have seen it about a week ago. They need to return the white envelope with your signature to their homeroom teachers.
It’s hard to believe but we are already to the half-way or “midterm” point of the first trimester on Tuesday, September 25th. The end of the week will be a good time to log into PowerSchool to check on your student’s grades. They still have half of the grading period to make changes and bring a grade up. Please don’t hesitate to contact a teacher if you have questions or concerns.
Parents – please create a PowerSchool Account if you have not done so. Once the account is set up it is good from year to year. Midterm grades will be coming up soon. If you need your Parent Access Code and Instructions, you can contact Dawn Hartman (630)469-5220 x5587.
Award-winning author Katherine Marsh will be visiting with the 8th grade on Tuesday, September 25th to promote her book Nowhere Boy. Book order forms can be downloaded from the library webpage if students wish to purchase an autographed copy of the book.
8th Grade Advanced Literacy: Letters for Advanced 8th grade ELA novel purchase are going home next week to purchase The Pigman for annotation.
A message from the PE Department: We seem to be experiencing a lot of illnesses on Wednesdays, which just so happen to be running days. If your child cannot run or participate on that day, then they must have a note from you. We will not be sending students down to the nurse without a note from a parent.
FINAL WEEK! Glen Crest is partnering with Operation Support Our Troops for their annual "Stocking Stuffer" drive. The drive is held ever September at Glen Crest to honor the memory of former student Kevin Oratowski, who died fighting in the war on terror in Afghanistan, and to support the designation of "9/11" as a "national day of service". Students are encouraged to bring in items from the list below to fill holiday Christmas stockings for the soldiers still fighting the war overseas. It is an opportunity to let these heroes know that we are thinking of them and appreciate their sacrifice for our security. Items will be collected from Sept. 17-28. Thank you for your support of this effort. The following are the requested items:
1. Small puzzle/Sudoku books
2. AA Batteries
3. Small bags of candy packages (M&Ms, Skittles, etc.), mints, or candy canes, gum, pop tarts, chocolate candy bars, tootsie rolls
4. individually wrapped: slim jims, snack cookies, granola bars, rice krispie bars, fruit snacks or roll ups, licorice or twizzlers
5. pens and mechanical pencils
6. Ziploc bags (snack, sandwich, quart or gallon)
