Glen Crest news 5/6/18
Dear Glen Crest Families,
I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful weekend! I imagine there were a lot of make-up baseball games and soccer matches! We only have 12.5 days of school left – hard to believe! Please check in on your student’s grades and make sure they are caught up. With two weeks left, there is still plenty to do! It’s tempting to check out for summer, but please help us, help them finish strong!
If you haven’t registered for next school year, please do so ASAP! We are in the process of creating next year’s schedule. We need accurate numbers to make sure classes are balanced and we offer enough sections. You can register now and pay later if needed. Just go to the district website at www.ccsd89.org and look for the dark blue registration button. Thanks for your help!
MAP testing is almost complete. The score reports will come home with report cards in the regular mail about a week after school lets out. Mailing the report cards allows us to teach until the end of the year, rather than closing down the books several days early.
Last call for written pieces and artwork for Spartan Spirit, our school magazine! If you missed today's deadline, I will accept submissions through Monday. See Ms. Kalle in room 411 if you have any questions.
Teen Advisory Board Blue Squad final meeting and year end party is Wednesday, May 9th after school until 3:20.
The Spring Orchestra Concert is this Thursday, May 10 at Glenbard South High School. Intermediate Orchestra performs at 6:00 p.m. and Concert Orchestra performs at 7:30 p.m. Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to their performance time. Don't forget to wear your black and white!
All math classes in grades 6 through 8th will be taking their course final assessments between May 14th 22nd. Students should review material in the upcoming week to prepare for this final exam. Individual teachers will provide further details about their assessments.
May 9th all students at Glen Crest will be receiving their running sheet and fitness scores for the year. Please sign the white tear off sheet and have your son/daughter return it to their home base teacher for a homework grade of 20 points. Fitness testing scores went up again in the spring testing. 6th grade was at 75% up from 73% in the winter. 7th grade was at 77% up from 75% in the winter and 8th grade remained the same as the winter at 76%. As a school the percentage went up from 76% to 77%. Great Job from the PE Department!
Best Buddies and Special Olympics Reception
Those who have been involved in Special Olympics and/or Best Buddies this year are invited to attend a special meet and mingle on May 9th from 3:30 to 5 in Spartan Hall. Parents and families are invited. Check your email for the Evite.

The 6th grade class is wrapping up "The Water Challenge" today (Sunday, May 6). This 2-week-long effort to raised money for The Water Project has been going very well, with many students indicating that they have been giving up other beverages and replacing them with tap water. The money they have saved by doing this can now be donated to The Water Project. You can make donations online at: https://thewaterproject.org/community/profile/glen-crest-6th-grade-class-water-challenge. If you prefer, you can also write a check to "The Water Project" and have your child give it to Mr. Hofmann or Mrs. Pruitt. We would appreciate the donations being made on Monday, May 7, but will continue to accept them through the end of the week. The donations will be applied to a project that will bring clean water to a sub-Saharan African country. Mr. Hofmann and Mrs. Pruitt would like to congratulate the students, their parents, and many community members who have sacrificed to make this fundraiser successful, and in so doing have made life significantly better for hundreds of people.
6th grade intramural basketball will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the lower gym.
Only one month left until Glen Crest summer basketball camp! Camp dates are June 4-22. Camp is a great time and an awesome experience! You can sign up through the Glen Ellyn Park District at gepark.org Contact Mr. Sheridan if any questions.
Chorus members participating in Music in the Parks will rehearse this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings (May 8, 9, and 11). We will meet Saturday morning at 6:20am and busses will leave at 6:30am. Students should wear their blue music shirts.
