Families invited to share feedback on advanced programming in January

CCSD 89 families are invited to attend one of three upcoming focus group sessions to share their experiences and hopes for the future of the district’s advanced programming.

Two in-person meetings are available:

  • 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, on the first floor of the district office

  • 9 a.m. Friday, January 17, on the first floor of the district office

One online meeting is available:

  • 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 22

Anyone interested in participating should RSVP at least 24 hours before the event at: https://forms.gle/hBaTpo74ZXLPiK9y8

Families do not currently have to be part of the gifted/advanced programming to participate. There is nothing families need to prepare to be a part of a focus group.

CCSD 89 worked with Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development to develop a continuous improvement plan for the district's gifted/advanced program.

The current advanced elementary program is called “Challenge”, and is available for qualifying second- to fifth-grade grade students in language arts and humanities as well as science, technology, engineering, and math. In middle school, students may qualify for advanced literacy, math, or science.

In January, parents provided initial feedback through an online survey. In June, the district presented the initial feedback at a Board of Education meeting.
