Deadline to apply for summer school is 8 p.m. April 12
CCSD 89 is again offering expanded summer school for kindergarten-through-seventh-grade students. Summer school will start June 5 and run through June 23. Classes will be 8 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday at Briar Glen Elementary, 1800 Briarcliffe Blvd., Wheaton.
An email was sent to all families at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 3, with a link to register for summer school.
The deadline to complete the form is 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.
Although the CCSD 89 program has expanded significantly from previous years, there are still a limited number of spots. If there are more applicants than seats at a grade level, spots will be filled in the order that applications were received. Everyone will be notified by April 19 whether they were accepted for summer school.
The 2023 summer school program is not an acceleration program. It is designed for students who need to further review 2022-23 skills and standards. The summer school program is not recommended for families that know they will be missing one week of classes between June 5 and June 23. Current eighth-grade students would take summer school through the high school district.
About summer school
There is no cost for the 2023 summer school program. Transportation (if needed) is provided. Class sizes will be smaller than during a typical school year. Lessons will be focused on math and reading with social work embedded into every classroom.
Summer school courses are taught by CCSD 89 certified teachers. Glen Crest Assistant Principal Antonio Diaz will be the principal. There will be a registered nurse on staff in the event a student needs to take medication or there is an emergency.
