Students can participate in ‘Penny Wars’ fundraising competition January 23-27

All CCSD 89 students will be able to compete against classmates in the upcoming ‘Penny Wars’ fundraiser, which will run from Monday, January 23, to Friday, January 27.

The district’s two Student Board Members, Kate Costello and Fatimah Shahid, have organized the fundraising competition and created a video to explain the fundraiser: https://youtu.be/qOJBkoFWLfM

From January 23 to January 27, there will be jars in each school to collect donations. Any silver coins or dollars students put in their team’s jar will add points. Any pennies they put in the other teams’ jars will subtract two points.

At Glen Crest, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will compete against each other. At the elementary schools, the groups will be kindergarten/first grade vs. second/third grade vs. fourth/fifth grade. The competition will end on Friday, January 27. The grade level with the most points will earn a popsicle party.

Donations from all five schools will be collected to support one of three charities identified by the student board members: The Child Mind Institute, Enchanted Backpack, or Shoes that Fit. Students across the district will vote for which charity will receive the students’ donations.
