Community invited to October 11 presentation on violence prevention

Community members are invited to a presentation that will challenge each person to think about their role in preventing violence. In her presentation titled “Preventing the Unthinkable”, former Aurora police chief Kristen Ziman will discuss how to identify signs that someone might need help or be prone to violence.

The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, at Hadley Junior High, 240 Hawthorne Blvd., Glen Ellyn. After Ziman’s presentation, there will be a discussion related to school safety, followed by questions for the panel from the audience.

Ziman, a nationally recognized expert in safety, will discuss how relentless action in the pursuit of prevention is the key to confronting the unknown in a crisis. She will talk about the importance of identifying and reporting threats.

Ziman worked as a police officer in Aurora for 27 years, eventually rising to chief of police in the state’s second-largest city. She has been a member of an International Mass Violence Advisory Team and has been called on by the Department of Justice to investigate crises.
