Public notice to allow CCSD 89 to provide two full days of staff professional development in lieu of four half-days

Currently, Community Consolidated School District 89 uses a half-day format for school improvement days: students attend in the morning and staff members participate in professional development during the second half of the day.

A 2021 survey of CCSD 89 staff and families indicated a strong desire to see fewer half days on future calendars and more full days assigned for professional development.

For the 2022-23 school year, CCSD 89 intends to convert four half days of student attendance into two full days off for students. These two days would be used for school improvement and staff professional development. As part of that process, the district needs to file a public notice and hold a public hearing.

The district will hold a public hear at 7 p.m. on November 15, in the administrative office, 22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn. You can see the full public notice here: Notice of Public Hearing Calendar Modification.pdf

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held on November 15, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. in Community Consolidated School District 89, District Office, 22 W 600 Butterfield Rd
Glen Ellyn, IL 60137, to hear public comment and to discuss the intention of the Board of Education of Community Consolidated School District No. 89, DuPage County, Illinois, to apply for a modification of Illinois School Code 105 ILCS 10-19.05, "Daily pupil attendance calculation" to allow the District to provide two full days of school improvement/professional development to staff in lieu of the four half-days currently provided, using banked instructional time.
