Neck warmers (gaiters) no longer allowed in school
On Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health issued guidance that neck warmers (also known as gaiters or athletic face coverings) are not recommended as substitutes for masks. Starting November 2, staff and students will no longer be allowed to wear neck warmers in CCSD 89 schools. Any staff or students that arrive at school with a neck warmer will be given one of the district’s masks at the door.
Families who have been using neck warmers as their student's face covering are encouraged to find a mask that can be worn throughout the school day. Masks should cover the nose and mouth, have two breathable fabric layers, and fit snugly against the face.
