Free lunches and breakfasts will be available at all CCSD 89 schools
All CCSD 89 families will now be able to pick up a week’s worth of free breakfasts and lunches at all five schools.
Meals will be available from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, or 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Families will be able to pick up five free lunches and five free breakfasts at any of the CCSD 89 elementary schools or at Glen Crest Middle School, 725 Sheehan Avenue, Glen Ellyn. Families can go to whichever school is most convenient for them.
The first Monday that meals will be available is Monday, September 14. When Monday is a holiday, the meals will be available to pick up on Tuesday.
Families are no longer required to fill out a Google survey to receive the meals. Families can drive up to the school and receive meals while still in their car. Staff distributing the meals will be masked.
Families can pick up meals for every child in their house 18 years old or younger. If your child is older than 18 and enrolled in special education, they can also receive the meals. These lunches are open to all families, not just those who receive free and reduced lunch.
Children do not need to be present to pick up the meal. Families cannot pick up meals for friends or neighbors. All the meals meet the USDA guidelines for school lunches.
The change comes after August 31 announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that the summer meals program would be extended through December 31. The USDA had allowed the program to expire prior to the start of the 2020-21 school year and CCSD 89 created a reservation system for meals until the summer program was extended.
