Families invited to celebrate music at December concerts
Families are invited to celebrate the musical talents of Community Consolidated School District 89 students during the upcoming winter concerts. The Glen Crest Middle School band, chorus, and orchestra will all perform in the gymnasium of the school at 725 Sheehan Avenue, Glen Ellyn. There is no admission to any of the concerts.
Orchestra concert: December 11
The fourth- and sixth-grade orchestras will perform at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11. The fourth-grade students will play “Hot Cross Buns”, “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, and “Salamander Samba”. Sixth-grade students will play “Shadow Dance”, “Moonlight Tango”, and “Merry-achi Christmas”.
The fifth-grade orchestra students, as well as the 7th/8th concert orchestra, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 11. The fifth-grade students will perform “Blue Jean Blues”, “O, Come, Little Children”, and “Dance Tune”. Fifth-grade students will perform solos of their Orchestra Karate songs, which earn them ‘belts’ for their instruments. Student can earn 12 belts total and four will be showcased at this concert. The concert orchestra will play “Labyrinth”, “A Solitary Wish”, and “Toccatina”.
Additionally, all the orchestra students will play holiday music at the concert.
Chorus concert: December 13
The sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade chorus students will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 13.
The students will sing a variety of songs from other cultures, as well as a jazz song and an American folk song. The students will also perform holiday songs.
Band concert: December 18
The fifth-grade beginning band, the sixth-grade concert and jazz bands, and the 7th/8th symphonic band will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 18.
The fifth-grade band will play “Hot Cross Buns”, “Band on Parade”, a Mozart melody, and “Jingle Bells”. The sixth-grade concert band will play “Liturgical Fanfare”, “Greensleeves”, and “Windermere Overture”. The jazz band will play “Jammin’ with Charlie”, “Song for San Miguel”, and “Basin Street Blues”. The 7th/8th symphonic band will play “Sleigh Ride”, a medley from Polar Express, “Quintus” and “Still, Still, Still”.
The band, chorus, and orchestra will also perform during the school day at an all-school assembly on December 19.
Band: Yorktown Center concert on December 7
There is one additional opportunity to hear Glen Crest musicians. The Glen Crest sixth-grade band will play a concert at Yorktown Center on Friday, December 7. The students will perform familiar holiday tunes, including “Greensleeves”, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” at the lower level of the mall, in front of the Marshalls store. The students will perform from about 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.
