Glen Crest seventh-grade boys volleyball earn conference title
The Glen Crest Middle School seventh-grade boys volleyball team is DuPage Metro Valley Association Conference champions after finishing the season with a 9-1 conference record. The Spartans tied with O’Neill Middle School for the conference regular-season title.
Glen Crest head coach Caroline Stauber said the team was solid in all aspects of the game: passing, defending, blocking, serving, and hitting.
“They are an extremely athletic group of kids. There wasn’t one thing that they couldn’t do at a high level,” Stauber said. “What impressed me most was how supportive of each other they were. They always pushed each other to get better and they really worked well together as a team.”
The Spartans finished with an overall record of 11-2 and were second in the conference tournament. Stauber was especially impressed because many of the boys had never played volleyball outside of physical education classes or backyard games before this season.
“You would just keep pushing them and they would rise to the challenge,” she said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next year and in the years to come. It’s exciting for boys volleyball.”
Members of the Glen Crest boys volleyball team are: Nihal Bellamkonda, Charlie Benes, Ryan Breault, William Gantar, Leo Garcia, Owen Hopkins, Alexander Ivanov, Chris Karr, Anthony Molina Flores, Samuel OBrill, Vaughn Schmidt, Nic Siguenza, Owen Stauber, Tyler Urbanowicz, Leo Vicens-Nolasco, and manager Noah Felman.
