Donate a gift card to help a CCSD 89 family in need
The families of more than 400 students in Community Consolidated School District 89 are getting by with very limited resources. At times, their budget can make it challenging to have enough food in the house or afford rent.
Winter and holidays can be particularly difficult for these children and, of course, the pandemic has made the situation even more challenging.
This year, the district will once again be collecting gift cards to benefit the families of children in CCSD 89 schools. The community has a long tradition of helping families in our schools who face financial challenges.
Social workers at all five CCSD 89 schools will be collecting gift cards from Walmart, Target, Jewel, and Aldi. You can donate as many cards as you'd like, but we request that the increment for each card be between $10 and $25. With help from the PTC community outreach teams, most of the gift cards will be distributed to families before the holidays. A few will be shared with families during the year, as special circumstances arise.
Whether it's a holiday meal, a special gift, or just a little extra to help make it through the month, we can all work together to bring joy to our neighbors.
The outreach begins today and continues through Friday, December 11. Gift cards can be dropped off in your school's main office. CCSD 89 social workers will see that these gifts are shared where there is a need. Together, we will make a difference for our friends and neighbors.
