Strong start adds up to success for Glen Crest math team

The Glen Crest Middle School math team opened its season with strong performances at the Montini High School and Marmion Academy competitions.



On November 6, 15 mathletes competed in three five-person teams at Montini. Both the sixth-grade and eighth-grade teams finished second for their grade levels.

In the eighth-grade individual events, Ian Dimler finished first, Kavya Uppal finished second, and Asrith Valluri finished sixth.

In seventh grade, Will Pope and Michael McIntyre tied for third. Dea Gjata finished eighth for sixth graders.

The eighth-grade team was Dimler, Uppal, Valluri, Sasrika Ghosh, and Aarush Singh.

The sixth-grade team was Gjata, Roopa Kuncham, Adriana Lehr, and Agastya Pabba.

The Glen Crest team was also supported by Sasha Bystrukhina, Anu Maddala, and Yashica Makkar.


Marmion Regional Math Competition:

On November 13, Glen Crest team participated in the second regional math competition at Marmion Academy in Aurora. Glen Crest fielded two, five-person teams. Each team had three eighth-grade students and two seventh graders.

Team 1 consisted of Ian Dimler, Sasrika Gosh, Asrith Valluri, Will Pope, and Michael McIntyre. Team 2 consisted of Kavya Uppal, Emma Briggs, Rumaisa Shaik, Sasha Bystrukhina, and Yashica Makkar.

In the individual competition,  Dimler took first, Uppal finished fourth, and Gosh was fifth.

In the team competition, Glen Crest Team 1 took second place.

Glen Crest finished third in the overall ranking in the competition.

The next regional meet for the math team will be January 6.
