Information on third-trimester report cards
Every member of the staff at Community Consolidated School District 89 would like to thank the families who have been supporting learning during this very challenging time. We are so inspired by the creativity, engagement, and determination your students have shown during the seven weeks of remote learning.
As we inch closer to the end of the school year, you may be wondering what report cards will look like. As mentioned at the beginning of the school closures, no student's grades will be negatively impacted by the pandemic. That remains the case: no student's grade will be lowered due to work they did or did not complete during the stay-at-home order. Some students' grades may be raised based on the work they have been completing. No student will be held back and the extraordinary circumstances will be weighted in favor of the students.
You should know that there will be additional markings on the third-trimester report card, reflecting the amount of work your student was able to complete for the content that was introduced. This is not a grade and should not be treated as such. Students will receive feedback if they completed most of the assigned content, some of the assigned content, or whether they completed a minimal amount of assigned content.
These markings are tools that next year's teachers will be using to prepare for delivering the best instruction to each student. It is important that your student's 2020-21 teachers understand what work your student was able to complete and what areas they will need to review when school resumes. In an effort to be transparent, we are sharing this feedback with you as well. Again, these are not grades, and they do not reflect any judgment on what your family was able to complete. They will not affect your student's educational advancement. We know every family is facing many new challenges. If you have questions or concerns when you see the report card, please reach out to your classroom teacher.
Your student should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. The resilience and adaptability they have developed during this time are skills that will have a much greater impact than a letter grade.
Their work and your work is appreciated. This district has always believed that families are an integral piece of every student's educational experience, but it has been never been more true than right now. Thank you for standing alongside us as we find new ways to keep learning at the center of young people's lives.
