Families of first-, second-, and third-grade students can pick up computers 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 20

Families of students in first, second, and third grades will be able to pick up a Chromebook or iPad at their school on Friday, March 20. Staff will be available at each of the four elementary schools from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to distribute devices.
Students in third grade will be receiving Chromebooks. Students in first and second grade will be receiving iPads. There is no cost for borrowing the device. At a later date, the district will communicate how to return the devices.
When a family arrives, they will be asked to sign for the device. Families will also receive a letter with their student's username and password. A family member must be present to sign for the device. Neighbors or friends cannot pick up devices for other students.
The district asks families to be patient when they arrive for pick-up and follow good social-distancing guidelines. Please send the minimum necessary number of people into the school.
District will not provide tech support on personal devices
If you do not want to pick up a device because you already have one at home, you must send an email to your principal indicating that you are declining a Chromebook or iPad. Please include your child's name and grade in the email. Please note: the CCSD 89 technology team will not provide technical support for personal devices. Also, the CCSD 89 devices will already include the apps that students in that grade level would use.
Guidelines for using devices at home
Along with the device, the district will issue a power supply and cord. Please use the following guidelines, which parallel in-school guidelines:
  1. Use caution when carrying the device.
  2. Store the device with the lid closed and nothing on top when not being used.
  3. Use the device only for school-related work.
  4. Keep the device plugged in when not using it.
  5. Keep food and drinks away from the device.
The Chromebooks and iPads are all filtered through an online application called Smoothwall. This filtering solution should block inappropriate content both at home and school. Please remember that the district's Acceptable Use Policy applies to the use of this device and can be found at

Food available for ALL CCSD 89 families

Any CCSD 89 families that want a lunch can pick up a meal and snack at Glen Crest Middle School or Briar Glen Elementary School. Food is available weekdays 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Lunches are available to all CCSD 89 families who want one. Starting Thursday, families can pick up two meals per child. 
Families will be able to drive up to either school and receive food while still in their car. If you cannot pick up food or you have other questions, contact Lauren Parker at or (630) 545-3507.
Remote learning 
Remote learning is designed to help your student stay engaged in education during the coming weeks. If you find that you or your student are becoming overwhelmed by the remote learning, please reach out to your teacher or building principal. You can also email and your message will be sent to the appropriate staff member.
