Glen Crest band, chorus students earn first-place honors at state competition
Twenty Glen Crest musicians earned first-place honors at the recent Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) solo and ensemble contest. The following students earned first-place recognition:
First-place solos: Division I rating - perfect score
Griffin Burke - tenor saxophone (eighth grade)
Joslyn Czerwinski - French horn (sixth grade)
Elise Fey - trumpet (sixth grade)
Sarah Goodin - French horn (sixth grade)
Lily Guetzow - vocal (seventh grade)
Juliana Henry - vocal (seventh grade)
Henry Lazzaro - clarinet (eighth grade)
Malcolm McGann - trumpet (eighth grade)
Bree Schaefer - flute (sixth grade)
Matthew Smalley - clarinet (eighth grade)
Param Sridhar - vocal (eighth grade)
Antonio Tapia - alto saxophone (eighth grade)
This is the second consecutive year that Lazzaro and Smalley earned a perfect score.

The solo and ensemble contest was held Saturday, February 23, at Glenside Middle School in Glendale Heights. Glen Crest will be hosting the event next year. CCSD 89 music teachers Katie Berry, Lev Garbar, and Paul Ropp are proud of the hard work and dedication of all the students who participated.
