School closings extended until at least April 7
Update: The stay-at-home order was extended through April 30. The earliest schools could re-open for learning in buildings is May 1. More info: https://bit.ly/3bDpfkU
On Friday, March 20, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a 'stay-at-home' order for all of Illinois from 5 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday, April 7.
In Community Consolidated School District 89, remote learning will continue as planned for all CCSD 89 students next week. Families will still be able to pick up food at Briar Glen Elementary School and Glen Crest Middle School from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Food is free and available to all families.
The governor also announced that schools will remain closed through April 7, although that date could still change.
There will be no remote learning during the district's scheduled spring break (March 30 through April 3).
All school district events scheduled through April 7 are canceled. If the events can be rescheduled when schools re-open, the district will communicate that out at a later date. The district will continue to communicate important news through email, the district's website, and social-media channels.
Thank you for your patience and your commitment to learning during this unusual time.
Food
Any CCSD 89 families that want food will be able to pick up a meal and a snack at Glen Crest Middle School or Briar Glen Elementary School between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no cost for the food. Families will be able to drive up to either school and receive food while still in their car.
First- and second-grade iPad apps
Several families of first- and second-grade students have contacted the district with concerns that the iPads they picked up today are taking a long time to download apps.
Prior to sending the iPads home, every device was digitally wiped and had the correct apps reinstalled. Due to the volume of iPads being changed at once, some iPads are still in the process of downloading the apps.
Over the weekend, the apps will continue to download. As long as the device is connected to a wifi network, the device should automatically download the apps and there is nothing you need to do.
If you have further questions or need support, please reach out to our staff. We are available to help you and your students.
