Board approves 2025-26 school calendar

The first day of the 2025-26 school year for students will be Wednesday, August 20. Staff will start the school year with two planning days on Monday, August 18, and Tuesday, August 19. The 2025-26 school year is starting about one week later than usual due to summer construction. The later start will allow time to complete summer construction – the final phase of construction from bonds that were approved by voters in 2022.

One significant change to the calendar is the placement of emergency days that are used if schools have to close due to severe weather. The first emergency day will be the Monday after spring break: April 6, 2026. If the district has used emergency days prior to spring break, this could be a day of in-person school. If no emergency days have been used, there will be no school on Monday, April 6. The district will notify families before changing April 6 to in-person learning. 

The remainder of the emergency days are at the end of the school year: Friday, May 29; Monday, June 1; Tuesday, June 2; and Wednesday, June 3.

The last day of the 2025-26 school year will be a half day (morning attendance) on Thursday, May 28, 2026, if no emergency days are used. If all five emergency days are used, the last day would be Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Fall conferences will be held on the evening of Thursday, October 23, and a full day on Friday, October 24.

There is only one half-day for students in the 2025-26 schedule (the last day of the school year). The state of Illinois previously granted the district's waiver to combine several half-days into full days of professional development for staff. The decision to reduce the number of half days was the result of feedback from families.

The 2025-26 calendar was developed with input from families and staff members.
