Scholastic Book Fair Coming Soon! |
Dear Briar Glen Families,
Did you know? Reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year. Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary, and in addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!
Encourage your child to read books for fun by attending our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Allow your child to choose the books they want to read! It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.
Mark your calendar!
Book Fair dates and times: Monday, December 10 - 1:00 to 4:00PM Tuesday, December 11 - 8:45AM to 4:00PM Wednesday, December 12 - 8:45AM to 4:00PM Thursday, December 13 - 8:45AM to 4:00PM Friday, December 14 - 8:45AM to 12:00PM Saturday, December 15 - 2:00-4:30PM
Online Fair (24/7) December 2-15, 2018 Online Book Fair
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school. Thank you for supporting our readers!
If you would like to volunteer at the book fair please click here to sign up or contact Elizabeth Webb at woodswebb@hotmail.com.

Briar Glen Holiday Giving Program |
The Briar Glen Holiday Giving program is ready for the holiday season. This program provides holiday gifts for some of our families at Briar Glen in need. The bulletin board at the front of the school is filled with items that our families have requested. If you are interested in participating, please take a "gingerbread man" or two from the board and write your name on the sign-up sheet.
Please return your WRAPPED gift with the tag attached to the office by Wednesday, December 12.
If you have any questions, please contact the school social worker: Kristin Payne at 630.545.3275 or kpayne@ccsd89.org.
THANK YOU in advance for your support on this good cause! A special thank you to the 4th grade Junior Girl Scout Troop for organizing and creating this wonderful bulletin board.

This week's snow day will affect the last day of the school year. The district builds five emergency days into the school calendar. This is the first emergency day the district has used in the 2018-19 school year. The last day of the school year is now scheduled to be Thursday, May 23. That could change if the district has to use other emergency days.
More than 200 families in Community Consolidated School District 89 are getting by with very limited resources. At times, affording rent or having enough food in the house can be a struggle. Social workers at all five CCSD 89 schools will be collecting gift cards from Walmart, Target, Jewel, and Aldi through December 14 to help these families. You can learn more at: bit.ly/2DEWOpU
Families interested in having their child attend CCSD 89 preschool in the 2019-20 school year can now request pre-enrollment information. To begin the pre-enrollment process, call Briar Glen Elementary secretary Michele Messa at (630) 545-3300. Anyone who calls will be added to the preschool mailing list. Pre-enrollment information will be mailed to homes in January. The information will include when and where registration should be turned in. More information: https://bit.ly/2ztPnhp
Did you know? While some fliers are sent home in student backpacks, many fliers from CCSD 89 and our community partners are available in "online backpacks" on the district's website. The online backpack saves paper, reduces the chances of fliers being lost, and allows parents to share files through electronic links. You can find the online backpack at www.ccsd89.org/backpack
